The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry mandated Equinox Construction Services (ECS) to carry out upgrades to the monorail system and the replacement of all existing handrails with 75 meters of new, galvanized handrails with an epoxy anchoring system, during the month of February.
ECS completed the sourcing, execution, QA/QC and PM tasks internally and with the help of their local execution partner, Boyes & Sons Construction, the delivered product exceeded the client’s expectations.
The epoxy anchoring system and concrete patches needed a curing temperature above freezing and Equinox’s solution was to employ a ground thaw heating unit. This work method included running 1250 ft of heated glycol tubing across the dam, ensuring that the products cured as per themanufacturer’s recommendations.
The addition of a new lifeline on the monorail structure, in conjunction with the new handrail system, has now greatly increased the operators’ safety and working conditions.
